Dimitri van Kampen's abstract oil paintings feature strong brush strokes and pallet knife applications as well as scraping techniques using squeegees, spatulas, and trowels. The blending and blurring of colours and often thick and textured surfaces of his abstracts are created through a process of adding and removing layers of paint. Van Kampen’s abstract paintings invite the viewer to lose themselves in the visual environment of the painted surface and, through contemplative absorption, experience a sense of intimacy and a transcendence of both the painting and the viewer.
